A
SPECIAL task force will spearhead efforts to develop the coming Malaysian
Education Development Plan (PPPM), said Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.
The
new PPPM will include the system’s framework, direction and development in
education, set to be implemented after 2027.
“The
new curriculum framework will comprise a curriculum based on standards and
competency.
“This
will encourage more active learning among students and ensure a more meaningful
and authentic learning and evaluation experience,” he said during Question Time
yesterday.
He
noted that PPPM 2013–2025 had shown positive results throughout its 11 years of
implementation.
“We
are currently analysing the present framework and identifying which areas
require improvement for the new system,” he said.
Wong
was responding to a question by Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng (BN-Tanjung Piai),
who asked about the ministry’s readiness to re-evaluate the quality and time
frame of the national education system.
In
a supplementary question, Dr Wee also asked about the ministry’s readiness to
remove certain subjects whose syllabi were seemingly irrelevant to current
demands.
He
also asked which subjects were currently being considered for empowerment.
To
this, Wong said the Education Ministry had placed an emphasis on digital
education and STEM in the existing education curriculum.
“Through
combined efforts, we can further improve the national education system,” he
said.
Wong
said engagements on the new education development plan are also currently
ongoing nationwide.
“We
have also urged the public to present their views on this,” he said.
